Shopping

Do shop assistants learn that strange tune they do supermarket announcements to? Or do they have sheet music?

Northern Rock

I am really quite annoyed by the whole fiasco, not least the lack of approbation the media has towards the crowds queuing up outside Northern Rock branches.

None of them seem to be working on anything other than "We've had all these reassurances from the lying toads so therefore I'm doing the opposite". Is no-one capable of checking out the facts any more? Does no-one believe the lack of ability to research the facts behind the headlines is something to be ashamed of?

Obviously not. There is after all no shame in ignorance. There used to be, however, some small amount of shame in wilful ignorance.

It is racist

Libby Purves writes. 'It's not racist to insist on language skills'. And indeed it isn't. It is racist however to angrily bang on about it for half a page in The Times though.

Bad manners 2

Strolling side by side with your mate in impractical shoes down a staircase, holding everyone else up. And not apologising when someone points not they need to get their train.

I'm sorry being fashionable is not a disability that entitles you to other peoples patience, especially when other people are understandably stressed by disrupted trains.

A thought

On tv we are told about lots of things Carlsberg would excel at but don't actually do.

So why don't they give up making a rather poor, characterless beer and go and do something they're good at?

Back on the train

For some reason trains between Shipley and Leeds are running slowly.
So slow that if I hadn't run I would have missed it. Whatever happene to 'we apologise for our late departure, this was due to waiting for a connecting train'?

Talking of moving quickly in stations do people not know it's rude to meander about slowly in a railway station if you can at all help it? Yes some people have mobility problems but for the rest of us it is rude to dawdle.
